A tartan is crisscrossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colors. Tartans originated in woven cloth, but used in many other materials. Tartan is particularly associated with Scotland.

Tartan came from Ireland, and it was then introduced to Scotland. The country was named by Scots who moved from Ireland.

After the defeat of the Jacobites at Culloden, the English Army destroyed the Highlanders way of life. Clan tartans and dress were banned, and cloth-making equipment was destroyed.The Highlanders still rebelled, by wearing trousers of tartan.

The country I wound like to go to is New York. New York is in the southeast of USA. People call it the Big Apple. New York has got a long island. It is near the Atlantic Ocean. The reason I wound like to go to New York is because I love to shop and everyone says it is the best places to go shopping. I also love pizza and New York is famous for pizza. I also would like to visit The Empire state building and spot the place where the Twin Towers used to be. I would love to have a picnic in Central Park. Another reason is; I love the programme Friends, which was set in New York. The weather in New York’s is mostly the same as ours in Scotland; it snows and rains in winter' and it gets warm in summer. My sister's friend has been to New York and has told me all about it. These reasons are why I would like to visit New York more than any country in the world.
