31 January 08 - 14:01Robert Burns Assembly

Today was our Burns assembly. It was a bit late because we go to college on Friday’s, so we had to do it today when we had time. We sang lots of Burns songs and poems such as; A Red, Red Rose, To a Mouse, Rantin Rovin Robin and many more. To be precise we did 4 songs and 7 poems. In the assembly I was a Narrator. A boy from our class played as Robert Burns. He was quite good and remembered all of his parts even though he only got told them on Tuesday. For our songs one of our Teachers played the keyboard. I did the poem called, ‘The Deil’s Awa Wi’ Th’ Exciseman. During some of the speeches made by the narrators and me, the boy playing as Rabbie acted out what the narrators were speaking, such as when To A Mouse was being explained He acted as if he turned up a mouse in its house and pretended to write the poem. It went really well and most of Teachers commented. The Teacher who played the keyboard for us got a box of chocolates. The assembly lasted about 45 minutes and was quite tiring.

That’s all for now until next time BBYYEE!

30 January 08 - 09:39The Deil's Awa Wi' Th' Exciseman

The Deil’s Awa Wi’ Th’ Exciseman

The Deil’s Awa, the Deil’s Awa,
The Deil’s Awa wi’ th’ Exciseman!
He’s danc’d awa, he danc’d awa,
He danc’d awa wi’ th’ Exciseman!

The Deil cam fiddlin thro’ the town,
And danc’d awa wi’ th’ Exciseman!
And Ilka Wife cries:-‘Auld Mahoun,
I wish ye luck o’ the prize man!

‘We’ll mak our maut, and we’ll brew our
Drink,
We’ll laugh, sing, and rejoice, man,
And monie braw thanks to the meikle
Black Deil,
That danc’d awa wi’ th’ Exciseman!

‘ There’s Threesome reels, There’s
Foursome reel,
There’s hornpipes and strathspeys, man,
But the ae best dance ere cam to the land, Was the Deil’s awa wi’ th’ Exciseman

Limerick

There was an old man of Blackpool
Who asked his wife, ‘Am I a fool?’
She replied, ‘Of course,
Your voice is always hoarse.’
That foolish old man of Blackpool.

28 January 08 - 10:28Auld Lang Syne by Robert Burns

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld land syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I’ll be mine;
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

For auld land syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou’d the gowans fine;
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit,
Sin’ auld lang syne.

For auld land syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand my trusty fiere!
And gie’s a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll tak’ a right gud-wellie waught,
For auld lang syne

For auld land syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

28 January 08 - 10:26Scots, Wha Hae by Robert Burns

Scots, Wha Hae

Scots, Wha Hae wi’ Wallace bled,
Scots, Wham Bruce has aften led,
Welcome to your gory bed,
Or to victorie

Now’s the day, and now’s the hour;
See the front o’ battle lour!
See approach proud Edward’s power-
Chains and Slaverie!

Wha will be a traitor knave?
Wha can fill a coward’s grave?
Wha sae base as be a slave?
Let him turn and flee!

Wha for Scotland’s King and law
Freedom’s sword will strongly draw,
Freeman Stand or freeman fa’?
Let him follow me!

By oppression’s woes and pains!
By your son in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest,
But they shall be free!

Lay the proud usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty’s in every blow!
Let us do or die!
