We Are Back!

We arrived back about 9:00am this morning.
I think all involved would agree this was a wonderful trip. The children constanly made us very proud. Many passers by stopped to compliment us on the way we went behaved!

The weblog has been a success, we have had over 60 comments from parents friends and family over the week! Thanks.

A big thanks to Hotel De-Instuif for letting me use their computer and internet connection to upload the childrens' notes and photos.

We hope to publish some more detailed reports by the children over the next week or so on the main Sandaig Website, we will link to them from here too.

The children were pleased to hear all the comments made on the site so far. I read them out on the bus. You will find messages from them to you below, together with some notes about recent events.
The children wrote them on the bus and I typed them up, so please excuse the typos.
Today we went to Artis Zoo in Amsterdam and then on to Volendam a pretty fishing village with a lot of nice shops! Many presents were bought. The weather has been great and the children have had a great time as thier comments will prove.
This will be the last post from Holland as tomorrow we will go to the Theme park and then drive home overnight.

Yesterday we went to the Nemo Science Centre. It was great. We ate our lunch on the roof of it. Then we went in and explored. Me and Lorna spoke online on the computers.
today we went to the zoo,, it was great, there was a lama chasing another one. We saw lions tigers and lots of other interesting things.
To Mum and Dad, I am having great fun, I a bit of sore head two nights ago and I missed you Mum.

Hi Mum and Dad, I am having a great time, but I am missing you loads. We have ben going to 10 pin bowling, which I liked and I liked going on the trampolines, they are really bouncy.

I am having a great time in the Netherlands doing things that I have never done and though that I would never do.
I have ben up a window on a canal, visited a Dutch school, made clogs.
Mr Johnston has just read out thwe things on the web log, and he said that he thinks that my whole family has wrote on it. Is the Newcastle squad up?
Say high to Aunt Gillian and everyone else.
The ferry was brill when we went on deck, loads of planes, wee Robert would love it here.

We are back from the smallest zoo in Europe, but it is bigger than I thought. My favourite animal was the Deigu. We are now going to Volendam to shop and spend money.
Later, I've had a ball, I got for Mum, em, em a surprise and for Robert em, em, a surprise, and can you guess what I got for my brother, a clog!
Im can't wait until the Theme park, it will be great. Don't miss me too much, I will be home on Saturday, so see all of you then.

To mum and Dad, I am having a great time it has been brilliant.
We have be to Madurodam, which is mini Holland,Ajax, trampoliners and lots of other exciting places. I have bought so many presents for everyone. I heard your message on the blog, it is cool. Mum and Dad, missing you loads, and tell granny I am missing her loads too and everyone else.
Today we are going t the zoo, and sailing down the canal and tonight we are going the the beach.
I have just been to the zoo, it was very good I saw lots of animals and even your fasvourite mum an Elephant, it was huge. Miss McArthur spotted Otters, they were very cute.
We called them Bubble and Squeek. But there was 3 so me and Lauren called the snap, crackle and pop.
We are now going to Volendam, to spend more money and get more presents... .... Now I am back from Volendam, I've bought so much and spent so much, but a lot of it was for you and Dad, so bet you are happy. I can't tell you it is a surprise.

more notes from the children, these notes are written in their notebooks as we travel about in the bus. My typing on a bus has quite a few typos, but we hardly have a minute to spare, we are having so much fun!

Ann Frank and The Nemo Science centre

We are going to the Anne Frank house and then the Nemo Science Centre. Today at breakfast we made sandwiches for lunch. I made jam and chocolate sprinkles, I can't wait.

Today we are going to the Anne Frank museum and then the Nemo Science Centre. Tonight we are going to 10 pin bowling. If there is enough time we might go to the beech or the trampolines or even crazy golf. After that we will be going to bed, that is the worst part of the week.
I have just remembered we will be having lunch on the roof of the science centre.
We have just come out of the science centre and it was excellent.
I made a pen and am using it right now.
Anyway back t the centre, there was a shop and I think everyone except Johnny bought something, he thought the shop was too dear and he ran out of time.
I have just finished talking to Johnny on the bus, he is in the middle of a story and is hoping to get it published in the near future.

Dear Diary,
Today we went to the best place in Amsterdam, the Anne Frank House!
You went in and watched a video of people who knew a member of trhe family being interviewed. then you walked into the secret annex, it was so exciting.
After that we had lunch on the top of the Nemo Science Centre, then we went into it of course! We hung our jackets up and went to the first floor, it was filled with heaps of stuff I am into.
In the techno lab I made a pen and in the wonder lab, me and Steph found out what powder X was. It was really fun and fascinating. Then we bought some stuff from the shop, I bought a mood ring (�2.50), a fortune telling fish, a postcard of the muesum and a thing for my purse.

Nemo Science Museum. We saw a lot of cool things. David and me went into a project room and we made chese. But it was not cheese you could eat, it was a horrible kind, because we made it with milk, this chemical stuff and a lollypop stick to mix it. We used a heater to heat the milk up and you need a sieve to separate the milk from the cheese. The cheese looked discusting. Yuo were not allowed to taste it, but the smell was discusting.

We had a VERY BUSY and WONDERFUL day.
On the bus some children wrote their diaries, I've typed them up and posted them, make sure to click more below, to read them all.
The children are having a great time and their behaviour and attitude is making us very proud! We have taken lots more photos, but I will not get many of them posted until later.

Claire writes:
Dear Diary, today we are going to the De Rank school. We have bought gifts for the De Rank children. We are going to Miss Suzanne's class in the morning and Miss Patricia's class in the afternoon.

Gary W:
Today I went to the De Rank school and we played basketball and football. Then we had lunch and went to a windmill. The Dutch children went on their bikes with primary six to play korfbal.
The windmill was massive and 4 floors, the sails were about 30 meters long and 2 meters wide. After an hour we swapped the p7 went t korfbal and the p 6 s went to the mill. I scored 3 goals then we went to have dinner at a barbecue. Now we are on the way home.

Chantelle:
We went to De Rank primary school and to a farm. We. got to hold a baby lamb and got t clap the cows. Some of the cows were scared they were making a lot of noise, the lambs tried to jump out of our arms. There were rabbits and they were scared, you were not allowed to hold the rabbits.
Now we are going to the other De Rank School, then we are going on a canal boat trip and a visit to a windmill.

Megan M:
We've come to De Rank and they sang a song called Flee Fla, one group sang then the other repeated. They then gave us apple juice and biscuits, right now we are in Assendelft.

We have spent a fantastic morning in De Rank School.
I've uploaded all the photos we too this morning in a new Gallery, there may be a few duffers as we have not had the time to edit or select the best ones, but they should give you an idea of all the fun we are having. We have quite a few budding photographers.

Monday Notes

Here are a few notes from our Monday Diaries:

Today we arrived in Holland everyone was really excited. But I think the wake up call was a bit to much for everyone. we had to be up for 7 am (but in our time it was 6 am) and be dressed in time for breakfast.
I can say that getting up early for breakfast was worth it because you could get:
a hot, continental or British breakfast but I thought that I would stick to a old fashioned British breakfast with a Cafe Latte.

Another poem from Megan, which has nothing to do with or Holiday but ended up in her diary:
A minute to Monday,
Just gone Sunday,
The sky is dark as a midnight shark.
Time is ticking,
Blood is trickling......

We will stop there before it gets too scary.

Conners report is more down to earth:

I am just of the bus at 10:50m.
In Holland there are a lot of people riding on bikes. Everything is different, because there is no litter on the ground.
The car registration plates are different because in the UK registration plates have white at the front and yellow at the back. In Holland they are yellow in front and yellow at the back.
We have been to Madurodam. There was models of lots of houses, like ann Frank�s House, the Ajax Stadium and a water park as well.
Now I am on the bus going to go to the clog makers to by clogs and I cannot wait. 12:37pm.

We have taken a whole pile of photos over 140 with the school camera, but I think we will need to wait until we get time back at school to sort them out.

We are have a wonderful time, too busy to write much
I've uploaded a few pictures in the Holland 05 Gallery.
We visited Madurodam, Ratterman the clogmaker and Ajax Stadium. The children are all quite tired after the night on the boat and this busy day.
We have arrived in Hotel De-Instuif which is lovely and had beefburgers and chips for tea.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to add some more of the childrens'comments.

Today we are going to Holland, and it is going to be great. We left the school at half-past 10 and were on the bus for a couple of hours and then we stopped at Tebay for our lunch. After that we went to the shops and bought a couple of things.

It was our first stop at Tebay we stopped to have our lunch. We had our lunch at about 1 oclock. We could not go outside because it was raining, so we had our lunch on the bus.

I am on my way to Holland, I've been on the bus for 4 and a half hours, we are stuck in traffic.
We drove passed the Rebok stadium on the M62. Most of us are quite bored. THere has been an accident, that is why we are stuck. We are having a competition to'spot the most Jaguars.

Yesterday they got diaries to record their trip.

Dear diary
Me and mum and gran went out shopping and got my new clothes. We went into Marks and Spencer’s and got a new top and some other things. Then we went into Debenhams and got designer clothes, well most of them were anyway but my most favourite thing is my cowboy hat with a pink ribbon around it and my second favourite is my blue kaftan. I just can’t wait to go but I will miss mum, dad, the girls, Iain, gran and granddad.

I’m really looking forward to going to Holland on Sunday. I’m a bit worried that I might get seasick. I’m really exited about going to the Ajax stadium. (I might even bring my little brother something back.) I will have the time of my life. Can’t wait till I go to Holland. Cause I’ll get away from my mum, dad and little brother. Plus it’s a change from Scotland and England.

It is only the 31st of May and I have been thinking about what it is going to be like to travel on a bus all that time. It will be it will be the longest I have ever travelled on a boat as big as that so it will be fun. We will be sleeping on the boat I will be happy to go on a big boat.
