glencoe blog

On Monday Primary Six will be off to Glencoe.
We hope to post our experiences to the Glencoe 06 Weblog.
This will depend on getting an internet connection. Our fingers are crossed.
If we do manage to post it would be great to get comments from parents and friends back home.

It was a dark, dark night and in the distance was a Haunted Castle. The air was filled with scary noises. There were noises of people screaming, dogs barking and men laughing. A vampire was drinking the mans blood. Dogs were barking angrily. The castle had a giant barred gate. The windows were creaking like floorboards. Hills were far away in the distance. The water smelled like rotten wood and fish.

There lives a spooky old house! Bats flap around the towers. The smell of potions floating in the air. Owls are screeching and children are screaming. Trees are waving in the air.

Stirling teachers

Hi Primary Six, I am in Stirling helping to teach teachers about blogs and podcasting. This is the classroom, there are a lot of laptops and a smartboard. There is an internet connection everywhere, even in the hotel bedrooms, so you can imagine I am happy.
You can tell Mr Naismith that the lunches here are very good.
I will see you all on Monday when we go to Glencoe. I hope you are learning the ballad and have got your warm clothes looked out?
You can let me know what you are doing in the comments. I hope you have read the comments in the THE SPONSERED GAMES post.

Primary Seven's topic is Castaway on Barralay. We were split up into groups and given a factsheet about a family and we were to take on the role of those people.
Mr Johnston then helped us film each other. I played a rich 38 year old who married her husband for money! (more)

Today it was our sponsored games as part of Health Week.

Miss McArthur organised our Health Week.

Primary 6  went out this morning and started our sponsored health week.

The choices we could take were hopscotch, skipping, running, tag, space hopping, stilts, football, and ankle hopping. We had each activity for 5 minutes and see how many we could do. Most people managed all of them.

The pupil council choose some new toys for the Playground they are Brill.

We are doing the sponsoring  and using  the money for more trips for the children in Sandaig.

Here is a movie of some pictures Jennifer took.

Look out for the Michael Kerins Special edition that will be out next week.

We made cardboard houses in our art lesson.
We needed cereal boxes, cardboard, sticky paper, thread and wool.
We got together with a partner. We chose people who we did not usually work with.
We got a big piece of paper and made textures by rubbing the paper with crayons when the paper was over different things. We drew brick shapes over the textures.
We stuck the paper onto the cardboard boxes to make the wall.
To make the roof we got a big rectangular piece of card. We drew tiles on the roof with a ruler and pen.
We used scraps such as buttons and material to make the details, such as curtains and doors. We used the button as the door handle.

For our art we collected junk for making Desk tidys. We decided to make our desk tidys with a Roman Design.
We researched Roman books for our designs and we drew them on a piece of paper.
We had to decide what junk we needed and make a list of things. Then we went home and collected what we needed, for example toilet tubes, kitchen roll tubes, cereal boxes and yoghurt pots.
We used or made cardboard boxes for the bottom and the sides. The we used tubes and stuck them down for our pencils to go in. Once we assembled our desk tidys we painted them. We will use Roman decorations like mosaics, shields, swords and spears.
We all worked hard to collect our junk and found it difficult to assemble. We all enjoyed making our desk tidys. We are going to use then to hold all our accessories. (more)

Yesterday it was the country dance festival. It was held at the Kelvin hall. There was lots of different schools there. We did a dance called the Dashing White Sergeant. The Dashing White Sergeant is a dance where we have to do all the dance and then at the end of the dance we dance four travelling steps past each other and then we meet a new group.

We had a break in between the all the dances while the other group were on the dance floor.

It was fun but at the same time it was really exhausting. The man that told us what to do let us do the dances two times. I think everybody’s favourite dance was the Flying Scotsman. There was people recording it and it was on the TV news. At the end of the festival all of the country dance teachers and some of the children sang old Lang Syne. I think  everybody had a good time and enjoyed it. Everyone who was there did there best.

Primary four went to the Easterhouse Sports Centre for Flag Football.
Flag Football is otherwise known as American Football, except you have to wear shoulder pads, helmets and knee pads. The ball is like a rugby ball but bigger with laces on it.
We wore a belt with flags on. The flags were triangular, two different colours, red and black to show what team you were in.
We played a game of 'cat and mouse' where the cats had to take the flags from the mice. The mice had to run away.
We played warm up games to help our skills.
We ran forward, backwards and sideways with a ball. You could hold the ball under your arm. We practiced throwing and catching the ball. To catch the ball you had to hold your hands in a diamond like this:

The coach, Graham, said we should pretend that our thumbs and index fingers are stuck together.
We had a good time, we will take some photos next week and post them here.

In technology we have been making clay pots. We will tell you how we made them and about the Romans and their pots.

Romans used just one colour of clay; we used olives and grapes as the raised designs.

We used Ho Do soft modelling dough, we rolled the dough with a rolling pin and we cut out a circle with a yoghurt tub. With the leftovers we made sausages and wrapped them round and moulded them on the base with our fingers. We used the tools to cut patterns onto the pots with the spare clay we made raised designs inside and outside.

It was hard to roll out the sausages but we all enjoyed making the clay pots and worked hard to meet our targets. We worked as a team and shared our ideas.

On Friday 3rd March primary 6 did an assembly on books. Some people had butterflies in their tummies but some people were ok. There were 5 groups. There was a poetry group a intro group a book on amazing facts a group on fiction and non-fiction.

We only had a few days to practice on Tuesday we started to Writing our words. On Wednesday and Thursday we practiced and on Friday one rehearsal and then the real thing and I felt so sick. Everything went just the way it was supposed to but I forgot to put the chair back were it belonged.

There were plenty of parts for everyone and we also got to dress up like a character out of a book and one of the girls wore her pyjamas to school and it was so funny and she was meant to be Wee Willy Winky

The fresh white snow blankets covered the ground. A gate lay slant screwed to a brick wall. Glass off the smashed windows scattered across the snow. Fresh footsteps in the snow, print pictures of shoe soles. Trees and plants surround the haunted old house. Wooden old boards are nailed to the smashed windows. Clear sky’s flew over the haunted old house. The gate squealed as the bushes rustled, the glass smashed as the door. Smells of trees and plants filled the air as well as the damp wood.
